Hugo Grotius

Hugo Grotius (10 April 1583 – 28 August 1645), juga dikenal dengan nama Huig de Groot, Hugo Grocio atau Hugo de Groot, yang pernah menjabat sebagai hakim di Dutch Republic. Bersama dengan Francisco de Vitoria dan Alberico Gentili dia memberikan dasar untuk hukum internasional, yang didasarkan dari hukum alam. Dia dulunya juga merupakan seorang filosof, teologi, Christian apologist, pengarang, and penulis puisi.
Pengaruh Grotius pada hukum internasional adalah sangat penting dan sangat dikenal, sebagai contoh sejak tahun 1999 American Society of International Law mengeluarkan seri-seri kuliahan Grotius setiap tahunnya.
